Today's fast-paced, stressful world takes its toll on our bodies. The impact on our oral health can be seen in the increase in gum disease, tooth decay, and an overall decline in oral hygiene. However, with a few minor adjustments to your routine, you can get your smile back to its healthy best. Improving oral care doesn't have to be complicated or time-consuming; you can make many small changes that will significantly enhance your smile and general well-being.Source: Pexels
Switch to an electric toothbrush
Regular manual brushing is excellent for removing plaque from your teeth's surfaces, but it does nothing for that already built below the gum line. The first thing you need to do is switch to an electric toothbrush. Driven by sonic technology, an electric toothbrush's bristles will clean below the gum line, removing the debris that causes plaque and prevents your teeth from being as healthy as they could be. Switching to an electric toothbrush will significantly improve oral health and make regular brushing more effective.
Drink more water
The body comprises around 70% water and performs best when hydrated. This also applies to your oral health: your mouth is constantly producing saliva to keep your mouth at a pH that is neither too acidic nor too alkaline. As we get older, the saliva in our mouths decreases, causing the pH to become more alkaline, promoting the growth of harmful bacteria and plaque formation. By increasing your intake of fluids, you can help keep your saliva at a healthy level. There are plenty of ways to increase the amount of water you drink daily. Make sure you have a water bottle with you wherever you go, and don't forget to enjoy a glass of water with your meals.
Try a tongue-scraping tool.
One of the major causes of bad breath is the build-up of bacteria and other germs on the tongue's surface. You can reduce or even eliminate this problem by using a tongue scraper. Besides tasting and smelling fresh, a cleaner tongue will also boost your oral health. Regular use of a tongue scraper will clear the surface of your tongue and leave your breath smelling fresh. A tongue scraper is a small, spoon-shaped implement designed to scrape the surface of your tongue and remove the bacteria without damaging your tongue's sensitive tissues. A good tongue scraper will be made from either stainless steel or plastic and will have a small hole in the centre to collect the bacteria you've removed.
Use a dental irrigator and mouth rinse.
Brush your teeth and floss regularly, but don't forget to include an oral irrigator and mouth rinse in your daily oral health routine. An oral irrigator sprays water into your mouth, dislodging any debris and bacteria built up between your teeth. Your teeth have tiny pores that lead to a larger cavity in your mouth. As plaque grows and expands, it can seep out of these pores and appear on your teeth's surface. Using an oral irrigator will ensure that all debris is removed between your teeth, improving your oral health and leaving your teeth looking cleaner and healthier.
Don't forget to visit the dentist regularly.
Regular trips to the dentist are an essential part of any good oral health routine. Regular dental checkups allow you to identify and treat issues before they become more severe and costly. Regular visits to your dentist will also help you to identify any potential issues with your oral health before they become problems and also look into other treatment options, such as braces or dental implants, to help you further improve your oral health.
