Hey there my lovelies! Firstly, I'd just like to sincerely thank you for sticking around despite my rather lengthy leave of absence and tell you have grateful I am to have your support, especially when life isn't quite going my way. Maintaining this blog makes me incredibly happy so, although I knew stepping away for a while to figure things out within my personal life was what I needed, doing so was incredibly painful and, quite frankly, I can't bear to sit around any longer. And, in addition to that, what on earth are you guys going to do without this year's speedy Valentine's Day lipstick picks? Duty calls, duty calls...
Firstly, it is worth mentioning that, in order to look and feel amazing on Valentine's day, an actual Valentine is not necessarily a staple on the ingredients list, so if you're too busy for love at the moment (join the club), don't worry, you're still perfectly entitled to hit the streets in full glam. Now, for my picks, I've, of course, gone for 3 red shades as, it goes without saying, red is the symbol of EVERYTHING surrounding love and it will also ensure that your lippy of the day matches the annual bunch of roses that your other half has bought for you (or that you've bought for yourself, singletons). However, no two hues are ever the same when it comes to the red portion of the spectrum; I've purposefully selected three very different yet equally as beautiful red lipsticks for you to choose from so, between these three, one has simply got to take your fancy.
For the apricot aficionados: Sephora Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick in Coral Sunset ($14)
With a sweet, marzipanish (not a word) fragrance, this lip stain has had my heart since the very day I bought it as it's fairly daring in comparison to my regular, everyday shades. As usual with Sephora, this applies with a great level of opacity and wears incredibly comfortably throughout the day - my lips still feel nourished despite the matte formula. The colour is simply unreal and even I'm not quite articulate enough to describe it accurately; all I know is, it has a stunning orange edge to it that, for me, makes it worthy of snatching that gold medal away from any bog standard red. This shade compliments deeper skin tones to sheer perfection, even without that pesky layer of brown lip liner, but I recommend it to anyone looking to betray their go-to red in favour of something new.
For the burgundy buffs: MAC Satin Lipstick in Paramount ($18.50)
Moving onto something a little on the darker side (muhahaha...), here we have Paramount, a red lippy with a brownish twist that takes it to a new level. I've used this lipstick on so many of my friends (and on myself, duh) when doing their makeup and they've all been obsessed with the soft, burgundy finish of this particular MAC bullet. The only downside to choosing this baby would be the fact that it's not a zero-transfer lipstick (nor is it meant to be) thus making it ineligible for that all important 'kiss-proof' label on Valentine's Day but, if you're not afraid of a little mess, then I'd definitely go for it; you won't find many other beautiful, good quality options like this one on the market.
For the authentic addicts: Zoeva Pure Velours Lips in Blue Blood ($12.80)
One absolutely cannot complete a red lipstick guide without including a quintessential shade that perfectly corresponds to what is expected in a red and, for this, Blue Blood was the first shade that came to mind - this lipstick literally beats the colour red at its own game. The texture of the Pure Velours Lips, being a cream/mousse, is nothing short of heaven and allows the product to glide on effortlessly and really lock the colour onto the lips. Although it's slightly too bold for me to even attempt (bar when I apply it to the centre of the lips for that ombre feel - love that), I think it would work wonders enhancing fairer skintones (you can even give everyone those Snow White vibes with a peachy blush to accompany the lipstick) - I dare you guys to throw all of your reservations in the bin and give this one a whirl.
So, there you have it - 3 lipsticks that are classed as "the same colour" but, when it comes down to it, are basically poles apart. I guarantee that, regardless of skin tone, one of this is bound to be your perfect red for Valentine's Day this year so pick your favourite and pucker up, gorgeous!
Thank you so much for reading today's blog post! I really hope you enjoyed delving into these lippies as much as I did!

I really like the Zoeva makeup range. I feel like it gets overlooked but there are some really great products xx
ReplyDeleteGemma • Gemma Etc . ❤️
I totally agree Gemma! Obviously they are known for their brushes but I do own 8 liquid lipsticks and 3 palettes from Zoeva and they're all, overall, phenomenal - you're spot on. xx
DeleteLots of love,

I also think Zoeva is under-rated. I LOVE this lipstick shade.

Awe, Han, you don't know how much that actually means to me - I've been so happy to come back and read your new content as well darling! Zoeva do some stunning makeup but, yes, I agree - I got this in a box set of 8 liquid lipsticks and I don't often wear this one unless its in the centre of the lips for an ombre effect. I'm not quite daring enough haha! x

The Sephora lip stains are just gorgeous, I have to say - I own 4 other colours, I just can't get enough! However, the star of this post for you guys is definitely Blue Blood and I'm totally here for it! x

Thank you so much for reading Paula! Yesss, Blue Blood is such a rich, true red that really captures the essence of Valentine's day - LOVE! x
DeleteLots of love,

I hear so much of Zoeva! That red is beautiful. I'm really interested in trying more out from the brand. I don't mind Valentine's Day at all, but agree it tends to be over-commercialized. My husband and I never do much except perhaps a dinner, but I think either way - celebrated or not - is totally individual!
ReplyDeleteDeanna | luxandvitae.com
Zoeva is definitely a brand to explore - everything makeup wise (I still haven't gotten round to trying any of their brushes - ugh) has been amazing quality so far! Absolutely, you're spot on about Valentine's Day - it's for you to spend in any way you like but, of course, be sure to spend it in style with one of these lippies haha! x
DeleteLots of love,

All are such great options - my favourite colour wise is the Zoeva one - sooo sooo pretty !

It is such a beautiful mixed orange/red - I'm obsessed with the formula and the shade! Awe, I just love to see what different reds are out there - it's hard to believe that these are all marketed as 'red' when they're so different! x
