Hey there little stars! As you can see by the title (sorry Sia and Rihanna, I was out of ideas...), today we're going to be exploring some products that will indeed have you twinkling enough to be mistaken for escapees from the greater galaxy: the "Metals Matte" metallic lip glosses by Cookie's Makeup.
Now, I've only ever done ONE review within the entire history of this blog (so that's over three, beautiful years now!) regarding metallics for the lips and, well, that's due to the fact that I've always had an irrational fear of looking like some sort of alien or outer-world species in them (personally, I like to refer to it as ET-a-phobia). So, when Cookie's Makeup kindly offered me the opportunity to try out three shades from the all new EIGHT colour range of metallics as gifted press samples, I jumped at the chance - you'll never know just how bomb something could potentially look unless you venture out of your comfort zone and, in this case, my venture really paid off.
Okay, so the first thing I'd like to draw attention to before anything else is the pricing of these babies, which is utterly insane - at 5.95€ for 4.5ml of product, you're getting an amazing bargain for them, especially if you compare with the likes of Dose Of Colours, who sell the same quantity of liquid lipstick for exactly ELEVEN euros more (16.95€). However, of course, the quality does have a rather substantial impact on the value of any given product so, the question has to be, are these too good to be true?
Well, based on the swatches above, I think you guys can tell immediately where we stand with pigmentation - all I can say is WOW. Each shade (I have shades 56 Rosewood, 51 Shimmer and 58 Plum) is completely opaque with seriously good colour payoff that, to be honest, even surprised me - I never need to dip more than once into the tube for a "full coverage" effect over the lips. I'm also LIVING for the amount of pure metallic pigment to solid colour pigment within the formula; some products that claim to be "shimmers" (this applies to highlighters, eyeshadows and lipsticks) are simply regular shades with a little extra glitter, resulting in you achieving a "washed out" version of your desired effect. On the contrary; you can easily deduce that that is not the case here, as the reflective nature is more than prominant enough (I mean, we're talking BLINDING) - I'm impressed to say the least.
The applicator provided sticks to the standard doe foot format, however, isn't too large or too small, allowing you to access the real crevices of the lips and ensure that the accuracy is on point (we don't do crooked lips here on my blog, honey). Oh and, speaking of on point, for me, the texture is just that - as I've explained before, I ADORE a more mousse-like, rich formula, not only due to the nourishing sensation that comes with the territory, but also because it's so much more spreadable, easy to work with and doesn't dry down as quickly. To be honest, my somewhat dry, leading-up-to-winter lips have been taking full advantage of that aspect, meaning that it's becoming increasingly difficult to settle for the runnier liquids I was applying before.
The longevity aspect of the product (which is, for the majority of people, the most important thing to look for in a liquid lipstick) earns these "Metals Matte" metallic lip glosses another well-earned tick on my list of expectations. My time spent out of the house, as I've previously mentioned, always exceeds a twelve hour duration and, even without the need to re-apply, these held up fairly well by my standards, although I recommend not pushing them too far towards their limitation (by eating particularly greasy food - yes, that means no Greggs...), or you may experience a little bit of crumbling and/or transfer. Otherwise, you shouldn't come across any major hiccups when attempting to sport these for a full day; they're absolutely perfect for college, work or a busy afternoon full of errands.
In conclusion, I'm genuinely glad that I chose to completely disregard the thoughts and feelings of the devil on my left shoulder - these are outstanding. I also have highly to commend Cookie's Makeup for their hard work in developing a quality formula, delivering it at a more than reasonable price and actually bringing out wearable, appealing shades to suit the ever growing range of skintones within modern day society and just the desire to not look like blithering idiots in our makeup. So, if you're looking for a little bit of autumnal FIRE to ignite the flame in your hearts for metallics (the rest of the range comprises of rosy, golden and rusty tones too - heaven), I totally recommend opting for the "Metals Matte" metallic lip glosses, which can be purchased here from their online store and, better yet, you can use the code METALSBLOG to shave some money right off your total, so don't hesitate to take that leap of faith and pick some goodies up. Alternatively, there is the option of popping into their Paris-based boutique for all of your makeup needs, which you can find at the following address: 44 RUE DU FAUBOURG-SAINT-DENIS, 75010 PARIS.
I received these from Hivency, a platform connecting influencers with brands. |

I wish I liked metallic lip products as these shades are gorgeous and they look so pigmented xx
ReplyDeleteGemma Etc. ❤️
Metallic lip products have always been a tricky one for me too Gemma, I've never really been sure of myself when wearing one but these are rather "normal" shades turned shimmery so they're a lot easier to wear than others, as well as being pigmented AF. xx

these look stunning and even better for such a good price! xx
ReplyDeleteemjbarker.blogspot.co.uk
I know, the price was definitely what shocked me when compared to a regular Dose Of Colours lipstick (I love Dose Of Colours too, don't get me wrong) - so affordable for everyone! xx

The shades are very pretty and the formula sounds amazing for the price. I like metallic lips that are subtle especially for the evening. I have a few metallic lipsticks that I use just little bit to add that shine. :-)

I have a couple of metallic shades I got from Colourpop but I don't wear them any more. These are so pigmented and gorgeous! x

The colours of the lippies are very beautiful on your skin. I think shimmer would be nice as a top coat on a nude as well since it's golden so I think it's my favourite for that reason. Gorgeous article!
ReplyDeleteEll xxx
Awe, thank you so much Ellie and, you're right, I can see shimmer looking gorgeous on top of, your favourite, Celebrity Skin (you see, I do pay attention). So glad you enjoyed! x

Wow, these are so pigmented and I love the colors but not big on the metallic lip.
ReplyDeleteAnn-Marie | http://facetocurls.com/
These look unreal Marina! I haven't ever tried a metallic lip. To be honest, lip products aren't really my thing, I never try anything new and am always super boring in choosing a nude if I am going to even bother at all. However, these look really nice, maybe I will have to give them a go! :) x

I have a bit of a metallic lip phobia too,but these sound great, from pigmentation to formula. Pretty shades too! xx
ReplyDeleteDi from Max The Unicorn
They're gorgeous, I have to say Di - regardless of the phobia, I've been sporting them out ever since! LOVE! Thanks for reading darl! x

I'm a little wary of the metallic lip trend too for the same reasons, but I'm glad you gave these a go and liked them, they are such nice shades! :)
ReplyDeleteHope that you have had a lovely weekend :) We went to a wedding which was a lot of fun :)
Away From The Blue Blog
Thanks so much for reading Mica! Haha, it just seems a little bit ET-ish - I've always thought shimmers were best when on the eye which is probably why I wrote off metallics in the first place. However, it was definitely worth giving these ones a go because I'm actually more of a fan than I thought! SO glad you had a lovely time at the wedding! x

I love a good metallic lip and these shades are gorgeous. I could see myself wearing the shade Plum. After reading this, these are something I will definitely have to try out.
ReplyDeleteHey there gorgeous! Thank you so much for the read and comment - so glad you're tempted to give these a whirl! I LOVE plum and, out of the three, I do think it's the easiest to wear so I couldn't recommend it more to you! x
