The Naked Heat Palette by Urban Decay - Review & Swatches

Ashy. Stunning. Fallout Prone. Pigmented. These are just a few of the many varied words I've heard being used to describe this eyeshadow palette. And, the worst part is: there's no consensus. Is the smoking hot Naked Heat by Urban Decay a massive hit or a total fail? Well, I'm here to give you the most honest and raw review you'll find; let's put this product to the test today.

Price:
The Naked Heat retails for $54.00/£39.50, which is slightly more than your average eyeshadow palette, however, only by a tiny margin; I think we can let that slide, due to the fact that it also comes with a double ended brush. Each pan contains 1.3g of product, making a total of 15.6g of product within this 12 panned palette which, again, is pretty average in comparison to Urban Decay's close competitors so no real complaints there at all from me either.

Packaging:
Being a real packaging "whore", this section was so important to me - I like things to look good in my collection and it's very safe to say that the Naked Heat didn't let me down in that respect. The palette has a magnetic closure and definitely some weight to it, giving it more of a luxe and bougie feel to it, which I love, along with the stunning grooves and careful lettering on the outside. I also enjoy the fact that the colours used for the packaging are very indicative of what's to come in the palette: there are some warm oranges and fiery reds that perfectly mirror what's inside. Coherence goals SHOOK.

Colour Spectrum:
So, finally delving into the actual palette, here we have 12 very warm, red based shades, making for a very HOT new release indeed. In reality, I do like the fact that Urban Decay have ventured out a bit more and created a palette with such a sweltering selection (the alliteration queen is BACK) as I do own a couple of the other Naked palettes and, apart from a few shades, they seem to have remained relatively cool with the choice of colours. And, plus, warm shades are very much my 'thing'; the moment I saw the different hues included in this palette, I had to have it.

Now, normally I write my own shade descriptions based on what I can see from the palette, however, I, for once, very much agree with Urban Decay's word choices. Therefore, as I swatch, I'm going to be including each shade name and it's rightful description taken directly from Urban Decay's website. And - one more thing - just a quick reminder for those of you that are new here (welcome to the family, by the way!): all of my swatches are done from left to right of the palette using a clean finger and no eyeshadow primer in order to allow you to get a feel for the realistic amount of pigmentation provided. So, without further ado, let's get into it!

OUNCE (ivory shimmer)
CHASER (light nude matte)
SAUCED (soft terra-cotta matte)
LOW BLOW (brown matte)
LUMBRE (copper shimmer w/gold pearl shift)
HE DEVIL (burnt red matte)

DIRTY TALK (metallic burnt red)
SCORCHED (metallic deep red w/gold micro-shimmer)
CAYENNE (deep terra-cotta matte)
EN FUEGO (burgundy matte)
ASHES (deep reddish-brown matte)
EMBER (deep metallic copper-burgundy)

Right, where should we start? The ratio of mattes to shimmers here is fabulous, with a variety of different finishes and, of course, the shades are absolutely stunning. However, I, unfortunately, have two issues to raise here, one being the lack of base and transition shades and the other being the lack of originality within the hues.

In order to improve, Urban Decay really needed to widen the spectrum a bit more, not only to incorporate a few more transition shades that will actually show up on dark skin (of the few brownish shades here, none are darker than my crease) however also to add something different to the game. Something we haven't seen before. That's why, if you already own palettes such as the Modern Renaissance by Anastasia Beverly Hills, then the lack of interesting/new colours within the Heat means that there's absolutely zero point in splashing out on this. It would simply be a waste of your hard earned cash which is, for sure, something to think about before pulling out your wallet.

Quality and Performance:
Now, onto the part that, of course, matters the most - are the shadows themselves any good? Well, according to Urban Decay, the formula remained pretty much the same since their last Naked palette, however, I, personally, have noticed a few differences. Whether this be related to the age of my other Naked palettes or an actual change in the formula, these shadows seem a lot smoother and less chalky than previous ones I've tried. They're incredibly buttery and glide on smoothly and easily, however, a the two darker mattes ('En Fuego' and 'Ashes') are slightly stubborn when they first meet the lid - a small amount of pressure must be applied in order to get these to blend out to their full extent. The fallout on the eyes is, as far as I can see, fairly minimal and kick-up in the pan seems to be normal: there's always a little left after every swipe, like any normal shadow.  For best application and blending, I used my own crease and lid brushes, as I find the usual double ended Urban Decay brush provided to be rather satisfactory: the texture and the size of both parts just doesn't work for me.

Pigmentation wise, I'm very impressed (obviously not Juvia's Place impressed but...); the majority of the shadows pack a punch, even with just one swipe. The shimmers, of course, are very powerful (bar 'Lumbre', which I find to be rather lackluster for a glitter based colour) and can, as you know, be intensified even further if applied using a slightly damp brush.

And last, but certainly not least, a little statement regarding the longevity of these shadows: I'm more than happy with their staying ability as, during a 12 hour (sometimes longer; life is hard...) day, I don't really notice any dramatic changes in my eye makeup. So, yes, if you are a working mother of two who also doubles up as a part time detective, this palette will keep you looking smoking, despite all of the drama.

Conclusion:
Overall, I know that, although there are some slight defects, the Naked Heat is a high quality palette that I will definitely get a lot of use out of, as it's suitable for daytime and nighttime looks, provides a decent amount of pigmentation, glides on beautifully and stays put for hours on end. Would I recommend it? Yes, of course, however, I do still stand by the statement I made some moments ago: if you have similar palettes that are also good quality, it's really not worth the purchase. But, if you are looking to venture into the frightening world of fiery crimson eyeshadows, this might be an ideal place to start.

You can purchase the Naked Heat from Urban Decay, Sephora, Ulta and Debenhams.

Thank you so much for reading yet ANOTHER post here on the blog - I know you guys love a good review so I'm happy to be able to have brought that to the table today.

Have you bought the Naked Heat palette? If not, would you? If so, what are your thoughts on it?
