Jeez, that was a long title. But this post certainly deserves it, as we're going to discuss the newest palette collaboration on the market RIGHT NOW. Yes, that's right, your girl preordered the new BH Cosmetics X Carli Bybel Deluxe Edition Eyeshadow and Highlighter palette!
Now, I must admit, I love Carli Bybel and her YouTube channel, so supporting her and her growing career is very important to me, which is why I picked this one up. I did also used to own the previous palette that she and BH Cosmetics came out with, however, that ended up being thrown away due to the shades being quite fragile and shatter-prone after transit from the US.
However, the moment I laid eyes on this beauty, I decided to forget the past and give it another shot because everyone deserves a second chance. But, was it worth it?
This palette, at the moment, retails for $19.50, which is very reasonable, considering the fact that you're getting 15 eyeshadows and 6 highlighters in one go. I do believe that the price will be elevated after a few months to $22.50, so, after reading this review, if you would like to purchase one at either BH Cosmetics or Pranava Beauty's websites, it's best to do it sooner rather than later.
For first impressions, on the packaging front, Carli's done wonderfully well with the design, as it's absolutely stunning. The rose gold cursive lettering goes beautifully with the pillowy effect created; it's fairly simplistic but drew me in with its elegance. The box is made using a strong cardboard-like material (which seems to me to be pretty sturdy, to be honest) and we have that much needed magnetic closure that I'm always fussing over, so I'm very chuffed!
Going into the palette, the arrangement is lovely too and allows us to differentiate between the shadows and highlighters, which is always helpful. One thing I will say is, I reckon BH Cosmetics have tried to pull a fast one (sorry for the outdated expression) with regards to the amount of product provided, which I don't personally appreciate. The "Deluxe" Edition palette contains 36 g of product in total across the 21 shades, whereas, the First Edition contains 47.6 g, yet you're getting only 14 colours! Where has over 11 GRAMS of product disappeared to? Are the pans as thin as wafers?
After getting particularly frustrated about having the wool pulled over my eyes, I tried to calm down and focus on the real reason I bought this thing. The shades.
When it comes to the eyeshadows, the spectrum of hues remains very warm across the board (which is always a positive for me), including a variety of rosy, violet and bronzy tones to choose from. However, I was most impressed by the range of highlighters they managed to create - I promise you that no matter your skin colour, there is a highlighter that will look amazing on your cheeks, nose and Cupid's bow. That is a very commendable thing to do, as I've seen other highlighting palettes circulating around the Internet that I've, unfortunately, had to miss out on due to the lack of WOC (women of colour) friendly shades.
So, in my usual fashion, I'm going to be swatching each and every colour for you guys, row by row, using my fingers and no primer, in order to capture a realistic representation of the pigmentation. I will also be including a description of each shade and my opinion of the entire row just below!
The Pinks:
Shade 1: A beigy nude matte
Shade 2: A peachy shimmer with pink glitter
Shade 3: A cinnamon-toned matte
Shade 4: A true pink shimmer with gold glitter
Shade 5: A rose gold shimmer
For me, this row was a little inconsistent, which was a disappointing thing to see, as I was expecting great things after watching Carli's release video and swatches. Overall, pigmentation is good, however, some of the shimmers are slightly too chunky, making them difficult to blend. 'Shade 2' is my least favourite - it just disappears into nothing when applied.
The Purples:
Shade 1: A shivering champagne shimmer
Shade 2: A grey toned brown matte
Shade 3: A dark lilac matte
Shade 4: A silver-tinted purple shimmer
Shade 5: A deep wine-hued matte
Besides 'Shade 1', which is just as bad as 'Shade 2' from the first row (BH Cosmetics need to work on their formula for all pinkish tones), the quality has improved quite a lot, as a whole, with better colour payoff and smoother application. I especially love 'Shade 5' - it's such a rich colour and works wonderfully with my eye looks.
The Bronzes:
Shade 1: A creamy vanilla matte
Shade 2: A true gold shimmer with flecks of pink
Shade 3: A chocolate brown matte
Shade 4: A deep bronze shimmer
Shade 5: A cool cocoa brown matte
Now, this row in particular confuses me the most because, pigmentation wise, it's very varied. 'Shade 3' is very disappointing and doesn't offer as much pigmentation as I'd have liked, whereas, 'Shade 4' offers way too much, with it's stiff, chunky consistency. Contrary to the others, 'Shade 2' is beautiful, smooth and buttery and blends easily onto the lid and with other shades.
Overall, for eyeshadows, what we have here is actually very inconsistent and disappointing - not all of the shades have impressed me with their quality, and didn't live up to my expectations. There is a large variety here though, with enough transition shades and pops of colour to satisfy everyone, so I will give them credit on that front.
The Highlighters:
Shade 1: A light rose gold
Shade 2: A real champagne-tinted gold
Shade 3: A Shivering white
Shade 4: A baby pink with BLUE flecks of glitter
Shade 5: A deep golden bronze
Shade 6: A rusty, copper
In terms of highlighters, I'm happy to say that these are as if they've come out of a completely different factory and are made using a completely different formula, because they're absolutely STUNNING. My jaw dropped when I saw how silky smooth and pigmented each and every shade was and, being a highlighter addict, I haven't stopped strobing with these since the palette arrived; I'm incredibly impressed with those.
To wrap this post up (because it's getting pretty long!), I'm not going to beat around the bush and make excuses for BH Cosmetics - They need to work on the formula for a number of shadows and increase the amount of product by at least 25%, as it's really not working out for me.
However, if you enjoy a good warm toned palette or you love your highlighters, this palette may still work out for you, as those are the two strongest positive sides to the collection.
Thank you so much for sticking around all the way until the end of this long ass post, I really appreciate your continued effort to read my content!

The palette looks so gorgeous; it's a shame that it didn't live up to the expectations. the highlighters look stunning though! x Nikita

I know, aesthetically, this ticks every box! However, there were a few problems with it that did disappoint and let me down slightly. Not every collaboration can be perfect, so there's a lesson learnt! x

I heard about this collab from carli and it's a real shame some of the shades are not good! I was also amazed at what you said about the missing product! It's a scandal!
ReplyDeleteAgreed Ellie, I mean 11 GRAMS of product just... GONE? How do you make 7 more shades but at the same time decrease the amount of product by almost 35%? It's a money making technique I reckon, but they ought not do that, because I've seen right through it! x
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie xx
Glad I read this because some people raved about it. Sucks that the formula needs work because it is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteGlad I read this because some people raved about it. Sucks that the formula needs work because it is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading! I know, I was really disappointed myself too! What a shame about some of the shadows! x

Oh I loved the look of this palette, pity the eyeshadows are so hit and miss!
ReplyDeleteDi from Max The Unicorn :)
I know Di, I know; I expected a lot more from this collaboration too because, aesthetically, this palette is everything. x

I'm glad I am seeing mixed reviews on these palette's. Now it makes the decision even harder. I had been so tempted for the longest time to get one. Thanks for you input!
ReplyDeleteThat's no problem Abby! Sorry to have complicated the decision but I felt it necessary to do an honest review on the product, and I'm glad you appreciate that! x
DeleteLots of love,

I guess you win some and you lose some, but I think the good warm tones will be a sell to most. Conflicted! Xx
ReplyDelete100% agreed with you, that's a really good way to look at the situation. Warm tones and the beautiful packaging are what sold this to me, but, overall, I would buy it just for the highlighters even, if I'm honest, because they're phenomenal. xx
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie x
A shame that the pigmentation of the shadows were a bit crappy but I have to say that wine shade (5) is gorgeous and I agree the highlighters look amazing. I am living for them x
ReplyDeleteI know Ana, despite the fact that the shadows did let me down a bit, some of the shades deserve credit, not to mention the highlighters! x
DeleteLots of love,

I like the peachy eyeshadow color with the pink shimmer. This would be great with my skin tones.
ReplyDeleteI can definitely see that on you Kathryn, stunning! x
DeleteLots of love,

Oh wow I love the colours of this palette! It's a shame the shadows weren't as good as you would have expected, but for me I prefer a "weaker" colour so this would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteThe colours are utterly beautiful in all honesty Laura and yes, definitely, if you like more controllable shades that don't pop too much pigment at once then this would be perfect for you! x
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie x
I dont understand why brands don't include colors for the super dark and super light skin tones. I'm so tired of brands adding them in as an afterthought.
ReplyDeleteAgreed Kirsten. I'm not at the furthest end of the spectrum when it comes to skin tone but yet still, I struggle to find anything suitable for me. My friend's exactly the same, except, it's on the other end - she's incredibly fair, and highlighters are just shimmery bronzers for her. This palette does include some universal highlighter shades though, so kudos to them. x

Looking at this review was difficult. It really does leave you in two minds about whether to go ahead with this product or not. As we are all different in our needs it might be best to give the product the benefit of the doubt and just try it.
ReplyDeleteYou are right lovely - there were so many different elements of this palette, some of which were positive and some of which were negative. Now it's just up to you to decide where your priorities lie - shade range or pigmentation? x
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie xx
Love your honest review with the pro and cons. I haven't heard about BH Cosmetics but as you said the highlighter is worth to try. They have quite range of the hue (the highlighters).
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed the review. xx Yes, I will stick to my word on that one, the highlighters are gorgeous. x I do reckon that BH Cosmetics have a highlighting palette - you can buy the highlighters without the crappy shadows! x
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie x
Very impressed by your honest and candid review. I don't know this brand as I live in Ireland and haven't come across it here. I know what you mean though by poor quality eye shadows or different consistency's in the same box. That can be very disappointing.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much - I always try to remain true to myself and I will NEVER lie to my audience. SO happy you appreciate that. x Ah, BH Cosmetics is exclusively in the US (I had to pay quite a bit for shipping) and, to be honest, for the inconsistent shades, I don't think it was worth all of that effort! x
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie xx
WOW! beautiful review, loved your swatches
ReplyDeletePsyched you enjoyed it, thanks for coming Sayeri! x

I have the first palette and was strongly deliberating getting this one too but I think your review has made me rethink, that is a significant decrease in product plus inconsistent eyeshadows are a turn off. The highlighters swatch well but I barely used them in the first palette, so I am thinking it is not worth it especially as shipping to the UK costs an extra $16. Thank you for sharing, such an awesome, helpful review. I followed you on Bloglovin', have a lovely week xxx
ReplyDeleteALittleKiran | Bloglovin
Thank you so much Kiran, this comment absolutely made my day! Thoroughly enjoy your blog - I'm already following you on bloglovin'! xx So glad you found this helpful towards your decision - to be honest, if you've got the first edition, it's not worth paying extra shipping just for inconsistent shadows and A LOT less product. x You have a fabulous week too! x
DeleteLots of love,

The palette colors are very pretty. You are right that it is set at a reasonable price compared to others like this out there. I love colors and love the look of the palette. Definitely adding this to my purchase list.
ReplyDeletePlease do, feel free to purchase - it's still a great palette for the price in spite of the cons. xx
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie xx
I would like to have this palette of colors as well. The thing that I like the most is that they are affordable.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's 100% true - they are still a good set of shadows and highlighters for the price. xx
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie x
I like the shades of purple, that is my favorite color in evening make-up. Shame that they lost so many grams of product from one range to another.
ReplyDeleteI'm wearing purple in the crease today actually - it goes pretty well with any kind of look! Yes, that was one of the biggest disappointments for me, as I expected there to be more considering there are a whopping 7 new pans. x
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie xx
I love the shades because you can use any of them everyday even for work. I think it's really nice that this palette is not like the others that you've tried from the brand.
ReplyDeleteThese are very everyday wearable Elizabeth and of course - variety is always wonderful, as this palette is fairly different from others that I own from BH Cosmetics. x
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie xx
I have never tried this brand before so I wouldn't know what their products are like. I just really appreciate that these are highly pigmented and that the shades are great for everyday wear.
ReplyDeleteDo try BH Cosmetics products - my recommendation for a highly pigmented palette from BH is definitely their Marble Collection, either the warm or the cool, as both are beautiful all round! x
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie xx
I'm always looking for new color palettes to create perfect make-up, and I also want to try new things all the time ;) This palette looks gorgeous - so many beautiful nude shades. Absolutely worth trying!
ReplyDeleteTrying new things is the key to finding your holy grails and what suits you. Sometimes I get seriously annoyed when trying new things, especially skincare, because they could break me out, but, you're 100% right, we need to be more open minded. The shades overall in this palette are beautiful and warm so, if that's what you like, then this would be perfect for you! x
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie xx
The review looks good. I'm gonna share this information with my friends who for sure know a great deal about Cosmetics and like to be with the trend..
ReplyDeleteThanks very much for the share - glad you enjoyed! x
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie xx
Looks lovely but I personally find the shades a bit boring (they are a bit same-y but maybe that is just my untrained eye)... Thanks for the honest review!
ReplyDeleteNo, you're completely right - there are no real pops of colour or surprises here, just a really warm spectrum. But, being a warm shadow lover, when I saw this, I simply HAD to have it! x
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie x
I usually don't buy collaboration items, but I can definitely see their appeal, especially when it's by someone you truly admire. This palette sounded really promising at first, and it's a shame that the shadow quality was so inconsistent. The highlighter shades are gorgeous though, especially that light rose gold!
ReplyDeleteJenny // Geeky Posh
Hey stranger! I really do love Carli, Jenny - she's so charismatic and interesting to watch. I was disappointed too, as I expected great things from this one - normally, I love BH Cosmetics products. But yes, you've gotta love those highlighters, I mean, talk about pigment!!! x
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie xx
Great review where you've covered prons as well as cons! Though have never heard of this brand before! I liked a deep golden bronze highlighter shade. It will look perfect for the date nights!
ReplyDeleteThanks very much Ana, so glad you enjoyed the review! I too LOVE a deep highlighter for those chocolate skin tones! x
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie xx
What a beautiful palette! I've never been one for flashy makeup and so I think (for me) the pinks would work the best x
ReplyDeleteThe pinks are some gorgeous shades Alison - and very neutral too! x
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie xx
I think many of the colors in the palette looked beautiful. But I wasn't wearing them on my skin so I don't know how they would have felt. I suppose that makes all the difference.
ReplyDeleteYes, David - they may swatch well, but blending is very important as well. It took me a while to build up enough pigment for some of the shades to even show up in the photo! xx
DeleteLots of love,
Marina Rosie x
The palette looks so gorgeous. Very nice post.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day!

The pallet is so gorgeous, I like the highlighters in particular it is a shame that they do not turn out as expected.
ReplyDeleteThe highlighters were certainly the highlight of this collection (yay for puns!) x

They did an okay job with the shimmers - the pigment is INSANE on the highlighters! x

I have not tried this brand before, probably because I don't use make up often which is why I don't recognize it. However, I still think this BH cosmetics - Carli Bybel is a great palette to have because it has nice pigmented shades.
ReplyDeleteDo try out BH Cosmetics at some point - they have some fabulous products, including very nice quality brushes. x The shades are very beautiful, I must admit. x
DeleteLots of love,

I've not heard of this brand before - but the packaging of this palette is beautiful and I love some of the shades x
ReplyDeleteHey Becca, thanks for reading today! x Yes, the packaging is just precious and there are some very stunning shades - you're right there. x
DeleteLots of love,

Love your review on this palette. I'm bummed out on the matte shades but I guess the price and the shimmer shades make up for it. Your pictures and swatches are so nice!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so so much Kristina! SO glad you enjoyed the review and my photos! Yes, overall, I think this palette just scrapes the win. x
DeleteLots of love,

I've never heard of this brand, but I'm loving that highlighter! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteDo check out BH Cosmetics, the highlighters are PERFECT Erin! x

I love the range of colours in this palette and also that the inside of it has a marble like appearance. It looks really lovely. It's a shame some of the shimmers were not easy to blend.
ReplyDeleteYes, it looks beautiful on the outside but the real product isn't as high quality as I expected. What a shame! x
DeleteLots of love,

I like the warm tones, make people look more natural... I'll have to check this make up out for myself : )
ReplyDeleteWarm tones are my absolute favourites Eloise - I can't do a look without them! xx

I had Carli's first palette and absolutely loved it so I would love to get my hands on this one. Thanks for the review!

Hey Abigail! The first palette was quite a nice one - I must admit, I prefered that formula to this one! x

For me, I am not a major makeup person, but I am looking to change it up. Personally I relaly like the palette and its variation on offer of colors.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm excited for you starting to experiment with makeup! This is perfect for someone that's looking for a warm toned starter palette - you'd probably enjoy it! x

xx
Yes - there were highs and lows with the formula but, overall, it's stunning! x
DeleteLots of love,

Love the colours especially the shimmers. That does seem a bit naughty of them giving that much less product as you assume a uniformity within a brand and it's product sizes.
ReplyDeleteThe shimmers do tend to impress with this palette, a lot more than the mattes! x So glad you agree with me on that - where has 11 grams of product gone to if the price and amount of shades has gone up?? x
DeleteLots of love,
